Another week of solid progress to the extent that I plan on hitting the trails for a run today. I'm really looking forward to blasting the dirt and hills for some pulse accelerating grinders. Since I've been racing bikes, my running has been at its lowest level of the last 15 years and it's time to ramp it up again. Running is a relief in many ways over riding in that it's so clean and simple. Shoes, shorts and you're off! No fussing with Lycra, helmets, tubes, water bottles, tire pressure, chain lube, traffic or the douche bags that buzz your left side as they pass....just get out the door and go!
In taking some extended time off from riding and running, I've had a chance to reflect about why these things are so cherished in my life. Most activities offer less and less satisfaction with repetition but running and riding are different. Each time out the door is unique and as I get older, it's clear that my drive continues to grow and I always get more out of each effort then I put into it. Some people grudgingly run for the benefits of being fit and healthy during the other 23 hours of their life. I run and ride because that 1 hour on the trail is a climax of any given day.

Rusty,
I knew there was an underlying reason to why you're so cool. You're from Oregon! yeah! Cool reading the updates, we should get out for a run or two when you get back. I'm looking forwards to getting back into it myself.
