Happy Birthday Lindsey:
A great Birthday weekend. Breakfast with my folks at Skylarks, rasberry picking and wine making, Dinner at D'annas with good friends, hiking at Lake Padden, a great movie (Inception), chillin at the beach, lounging around the garden, Sunday night pizza and cake with Lindsey's entire family. Outstanding!
Collarbone Update:
The shoulder is starting to feel solid but is still limited in it's range of motion. I continue to pound the supplements and receive laser treatment twice weekly. So far, I can't argue with the results and am happy to report that I've been hitting spin sessions on the stationary bike and gone on a couple of hilly hikes in the Chuckanuts. Things are clearly not 100% yet or even 80% but they're getting there.
I read on velonews the other day that Frank Schleck is due to race this weekend after a tipple collar bone break just 4 weeks ago....That's hard to comprehend but I guess when you're paid to ride on 2 wheels, you need to get back in the saddle as soon as possible. A titanium plate wrenched down by steel screws clearly gets you there faster although I'm 100% happy with the natural route. It's been a fascinating process learning and experiencing how complex and diligent the body is in repairing itself. I ran into a buddy at the YMCA this week who showed me his surgically repaired collar bone and you could actually see screws underneath his burly scar and skin. Yikes, no thanks... I'm quite happy with a slightly crooked bone and an additional 4 weeks off the bike.
Flying out to Oregon:
Flying out today with mi madre to my childhood stomping ground, Jacksonville, Oregon for my brother Brendan's shotgun courthouse wedding. It's been a long time since I've been to the area and I'm really looking forward to visiting some of the places which now linger as a blurry memory . Brendan and Sarah are getting married and about to have a baby all in the next year. Their world has been flipped upside down like so many others around us in the last year and I'm pretty stoked to be a part of it. The Dodge clan is expanding ... time to celebrate!
